Although Mr Ponting was a long-time brand ambassador for vitamin maker Swisse Wellness, and more recently was involved with betting agency BetEasy, his new business – Ponting Wines – is his first big venture since his retirement from international cricket in 2012.
With names like "Mowbray Boy" pinot noir 2019 (a nod to his youth club) and "The Pinnacle" shiraz 2017 (honouring the Ashes), Ponting is hoping to capture sales from wine lovers and cricket fans alike.
"We have left no stone unturned with this business," Mr Ponting told AFR Weekend.
"When you have got your name on something and it's out there for everyone to see, you have to ensure it does well; that is also why we have involved ourselves with the people we have. We see ourselves as a premium product and premium brand."
